NH Summit on Systemic Inclusion:  From Compliance to Impact

In collaboration with the New Hampshire Bankers Association, NH Municipal Association, Diversity Workforce Coalition, NH Community Development Finance Authority, NH Department of Education, NH Department of Business and Economic Affairs’ Division of Economic Development, NH Office of Strategic Initiatives, NH School Connectivity Initiative, New England School Library Association, State Education Technology Directors Association, and other partners

Moving lower-income learners of all ages out of poverty through systemic inclusion

 Goals  –  Engage participants in:

• Further developing a statewide network of leadership teams in low- and moderate-income NH communities, from banking, education, philanthropy, and workforce development, to identify and address obstacles to systemic inclusion in NH.
• Sharing promising and proven practices for Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) investment for a more inclusive economy in low- and moderate-income (LMI) communities.
• Developing action plans to
  • Improve access for unbanked youths and families to banking services, from free checking accounts to financial literacy education and credit repair counseling
  • Spur CRA-backed investment for affordable broadband in underserved areas.
  • Strengthen inclusive pathways to careers in banking, construction, manufacturing, STEM, teaching, environmental sustainability, tech and other high demand fields.
  • Replicate in other NH communities pioneering efforts recently launched in Manchester to spur joint CRA, foundation and educational system investments for systemic inclusion.

• Broadband Investment Planning – facilitated by Carol Miller, director of broadband technology, NH Department of Business and Economic Affairs

Purpose: engage municipal, regional planning, philanthropic, banking, legislative and other leaders in co-developing a strategy for developing a plan to spur investment in fiber infrastructure and ISP business development, to bring affordable broadband to all underserved areas of NH.

• BankOn New Hampshire Coalition Development – facilitated by Dr. Paul Resta. Board chairperson, NCDE

Purpose: engage banking, financial literacy, and economic inclusion leaders in developing plans for the newly formed BankOn New Hampshire coalition to  bring BankOn’s resources (free checking with financial literacy education, asset-building mentoring, credit repair counseling, and freedom from overdraft penalty fees) to all unbanked NH families.

• Scaling VISTA Chapters to Low- and Moderate-Income (LMI) Communities Statewide

Purpose: engage afterschool, banking, educational, workforce development, and economic inclusion leaders in scaling VISTA Chapters – online afterschool programs that offer LMI youths with free checking and other financial inclusion services, orientation to pathways to in-demand living wage jobs in NH, orientation to postsecondary programs that equip LMI youths and adults with skills needed to enter these occupations, and free laptops and home broadband subsidy to remove digital divide barriers.

11:30AM – 12:30PM     Concurrent Action Planning Sessions II

Concurrent groups continue action planning, preparing to report out their recommended next steps and resource needs to all summit participants during the Report-Out Session at 1:45-2:45PM (see below).
